Perfect World has officially announced that Shanghai will return as host for a CS2 Major in 2027 – and with that, both of the year's Majors are now in place. For the first time, this gives a clear picture of how the competitive season will take shape for teams and players.
Shanghai Major 2027 runs from 22 November to 12 December and features a prize pool of $1.25 million. The format follows the standard used at all Majors since 2025: 32 teams compete through three Swiss stages before eight teams battle for the title in a playoff bracket.
With the Shanghai confirmation, the framework is now clear: the season opens with the first Major in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and concludes with the Shanghai tournament late in the year. The two events thus serve as the season's anchor points, structuring when teams need to peak and qualify.
Between the two Majors, the Esports World Cup 2027 takes place, with the CS tournament scheduled from 20 July to 1 August in Riyadh. An open LAN qualifier will be held beforehand, from 16 to 18 July, sending four teams through to the main event. This means the summer months represent an intense intermediate period that pressures teams to prioritise sharply.
For players, the calendar presents clear turning points: the Buenos Aires Major marks the start of the season, EWC serves as a demanding mid-season test, and Shanghai closes the year with the largest prize potential. Three separate events with vastly different entry structures – Major qualification, open LAN qualification, and direct invitation – require organisations to plan their rosters and peak form far earlier than before.
