KRÜ Blaze wins VCT Game Changers Championship 2026 from lower bracket after five-map final against Gentle Mates GC
KRÜ Blaze fought their way from the lower bracket all the way to the title at VCT Game Changers Championship 2026, defeating Gentle Mates GC 3-2 in a decisive five-map grand final on November 1.

KRÜ Blaze are world champions in VCT Game Changers 2026. The team reached the top via the hardest possible route – through the lower bracket – and crowned their effort with a 3-2 victory over Gentle Mates GC in a grand final that went all the way to the fifth and decisive map on November 1.
The road there was anything but straightforward. KRÜ opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Gen.G GC in the upper bracket quarterfinal, but were then sent down to the lower bracket after a 0-2 loss to Shopify Rebellion Gold in the upper semifinal. That was the team's only series loss in the entire tournament.
From the lower bracket, KRÜ did not drop a single series again. Team Liquid Brazil and MIBR GC were both defeated 2-0, and in the lower bracket final KRÜ turned the result around against Shopify Rebellion Gold with a 3-1 victory, booking their place in the grand final.
On the other side of the bracket, Gentle Mates GC had sailed through the upper bracket without a single series loss. They defeated Team Liquid Brazil and MIBR GC with identical 2-0 scorelines and beat Shopify Rebellion Gold 2-1 in the upper final. The grand final against KRÜ was therefore Gentle Mates' first series loss at the entire championship.
The final itself was a five-map affair that stretched across dramatic swings. Gentle Mates took the first map in 40 minutes, but KRÜ responded with the fastest map of the series – map 2 in 38 minutes. The third map was the evening's marathon, lasting 61 minutes before KRÜ closed it out and went ahead 2-1. Gentle Mates kept themselves alive with a victory on map 4 in 44 minutes, but KRÜ had the final say on the fifth and last map, which lasted 45 minutes.
On paper it was a surprise. Gentle Mates came in as the highest-ranked team with an Elo rating of 1828 and an overall record of 33-8, while KRÜ sat at number 16 with a rating of 1757 – but with far greater match experience: 64-21 across 85 rated matches compared to Gentle Mates' 41. That experience with long series proved decisive in a final that went all the way.
Winning a championship from the lower bracket without losing a single upper bracket match is by definition impossible – KRÜ did in fact lose in the upper bracket. What is remarkable instead is that after that loss they did not drop a single series again, and that they defeated the only team to come through the tournament without a series loss in the final itself.
