Luminosity have fought their way to the semifinals at Logitech G Play Connect 2026 in Warsaw, and the path tells the story of a team that grows under pressure.
The quarterfinal: BBL sent home 2-0
Against BBL in the quarterfinal, Luminosity won both maps with a clear margin. On Nuke – BBL's own map pick – the match was even in the first half, but Luminosity pulled away and won 13-9. An almost impossible 1v3 clutch from AWP player afro on A-site was the decisive moment. On Mirage, Luminosity's own pick, there was never any doubt: 8-4 at halftime and 13-5 at the final whistle.
Afro was the series' standout player with 25 AWP kills, 96.4 ADR and a rating of 1.73. yxngstxr contributed 36 kills and a rating of 1.48 across the two maps. BBL leave the tournament without having won a single map.
The group stage: 3-2 after a nerve-wracking NIP match
The road to the quarterfinal was far from straightforward. Luminosity lost their opening match to GamerLegion 7-13 and then had to win four of the remaining four matches to qualify. They beat Metizport and M80 – the latter by an impressive 13-4 – but lost narrowly 11-13 to B8.
Everything came down to the decisive match against NIP. A win was mandatory; a loss would have sent Luminosity out via tiebreak. They delivered: 13-11 on Ancient, with Rainwaker as the team's most consistent profile throughout the group stage with an average rating of approximately 1.22.
What does it mean against B8?
The semifinal against B8 is a significantly tougher task. B8 completed the entire Group A without a single loss and advanced directly to the semifinals, while Luminosity had to battle through the quarterfinal. Luminosity did in fact lose to B8 in the group stage – admittedly closely, 11-13 – but the fact that they have already faced the team gives them concrete mapping of the opponent.
Afro's AWP dominance and the team's ability to close out tight matches – demonstrated against both NIP and BBL – are the strongest arguments for Luminosity being able to cause an upset. However, B8's unbeaten group stage and direct seeding to the semis underline that the Ukrainians are clear favourites. Luminosity need to deliver their best CS to advance.
