Opening day at Valorant Champions Shanghai 2026 featured a convincing performance from G2 Esports, who swept TYLOO aside with a clear 2-0 sweep in the second match of Group C.
On the first map, Lotus, G2 started with a double-controller setup featuring Vyse and won the opening pistol round. The first half was close, as TYLOO equalized twice — at 4-4 and again at 6-6 — driven by splash's Neon play, which repeatedly caught G2 off guard. But when the second half began, G2 took another pistol round and from there ran through a flawless half. trent was particularly prominent on Skye, and G2 closed out the map 13-6.
On Sunset, the dominant trend continued. G2 quickly built a 7-1 lead, and although TYLOO's Scales nearly landed an ace clutch, G2 went into the break with a 10-2 advantage. A quick mid-fight in the second half and a won eco round extinguished any comeback dreams for TYLOO, and G2 won the map 13-3.
The sweep has direct consequences for both teams' paths through the tournament. G2 now face Paper Rex — who earlier in the day defeated Team Liquid 2-1 — in a match where the winner secures playoff advancement. TYLOO, on the other hand, are forced into an elimination match against Team Liquid, where another loss means an exit from Champions Shanghai 2026. In a double-elimination format, the margins have now disappeared for the Chinese team.
TYLOO arrived in Shanghai as China's first-seeded team, while G2 were participating in an international event for the first time since Champions 2024 without a preceding regional title. Nevertheless, the gap in international experience became evident from the second half of the first map onward.
The tournament runs until October 18 with a total prize pool of $2.25 million.
