T1 sends JD Gaming out and closes the door on all of China at Champions Shanghai

T1 defeated JD Gaming 2-1 on October 2 in Group A's elimination match at VALORANT Champions 2026 Shanghai, putting the final full stop on every Chinese team's participation in the tournament. With JDG out of the picture, it was clear that none of the four VCT CN representatives would reach the playoffs.

The match played out across three dramatically different maps. On Lotus, T1's own map pick, JDG came out strong and built a 6-4 lead in the first half, driven by crownfisher, who finished the half with 13 kills. T1 levelled at 6-6 and turned the match around in the second half, where Meteor was decisive in the comeback. T1 closed out Lotus 13-11.

On Abyss, the picture flipped completely. JDG's zhe on Yoru dominated, the team went into the break with a 9-3 lead and converted a second pistol round into a crushing 13-3 victory — one of the strongest single-map performances from a Chinese team in the entire tournament.

The deciding map on Haven, however, went to T1. The team established an 8-4 advantage in the first half and refused to be shaken by JDG's attempts to turn things around. BuZz and the rest of T1 converted the crucial duels and won 13-5, securing the series victory 2-1.

JD Gaming were the fourth and final Chinese team to fall. TYLOO had already been eliminated after a 1-2 loss to Team Liquid, Xi Lai Gaming lost 0-2 to Nongshim RedForce, and EDward Gaming were knocked out with a 0-2 defeat to Global Esports, who won Summit 13-5 and Sunset 13-6. All four Chinese teams had lost their opening matches 0-2, and the region ended the tournament with just two map wins against 16 map losses.

T1 now face FUT Esports in Group A's decider match on October 4 for a spot in the playoffs, which begin on October 7.
