Derke and ara for sale: Who in EMEA needs a Duelist?
Within 24 hours, the EMEA transfer market has gained two available Duelists: Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev is leaving Team Vitality after two seasons, and Eduard-George "ara" Hanceriuc has been released by GIANTX. The timing is no coincidence – the 2026 season is approaching its conclusion, and teams are beginning to put the first pieces of their 2027 rosters together.
The two players represent very different profiles, however, and likely very different markets. Derke leaves Vitality as one of the most decorated Duelists in EMEA: he helped lead the team to a second-place finish at Champions Shanghai 2026, the organisation's best-ever Champions result. Vitality are retaining four players – Jamppi, PROFEK, Chronicle and Sayonara – and are therefore specifically looking for a fifth man in the Duelist role. Ironically, it is precisely the gap Derke leaves behind that Vitality themselves must now fill.
For the partner teams in EMEA, Derke is the most obvious candidate for a direct upgrade. His experience from international tournaments and his documented ability to carry a team's offence make him attractive to any team lacking a primary carry. Vitality are confirmed as a VCT partner team in 2027, and the other partners with known Duelist vacancies will likely compete for his signature.
ara's situation is different. GIANTX lost their partner status and most recently competed at Monsters Reloaded. ara and his teammate Flickless helped qualify GIANTX for Champions Paris 2025, but in 2026 the team never reached an international event. ara is a Duelist profile with a Challengers background who has proven himself at partner level – but his statistics have, according to observers, been inconsistent. He is realistically a candidate for teams in the upper Challengers league or for partners seeking a cheaper solution with potential.
With several contracts expected to expire around the beginning of November, the availability of the two players is an early signal that the EMEA transfer window is open. Neither of them has yet confirmed a new destination.
