T1 survive elimination: From 10-3 deficit to victory over Paper Rex
T1 survived elimination at Champions Shanghai 2026 with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Paper Rex, having overturned a 10-3 deficit on Summit to win 13-11. The victory came after the team's opening 0-2 loss to NRG.

T1's path through the playoff stage at VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 has been anything but straightforward. It began with a clear 0-2 loss to NRG in the upper quarterfinal – a defeat on Lotus 13-11 and Summit 13-7 – which sent the Korean team straight down into the lower bracket. One more loss would have meant an early exit from the world championship.
Against Paper Rex in the first round of the lower bracket, T1 faced exactly that situation. The two Pacific rivals split the first two maps: T1 won Lotus 13-7, while PRX responded with a convincing 13-6 victory on Ascent, highlighted by invy's ace on the opening pistol round and something's 24 kills on the map.
The deciding map, Summit, looked like a disaster for T1 for a long time. Paper Rex built a 9-3 lead at halftime and extended it further to 10-3 – just three rounds away from sending T1 home. That was when the turning point arrived.
Instead of collapsing, T1 began methodically dismantling PRX's defense round by round. iZu was a central figure in the comeback, delivering consistent pressure when the team needed it most. His 52 kills were the highest for T1 across the entire series. Munchkin finished with the highest rating on the team at 1.20. T1 turned a seven-round deficit into a 13-11 victory and advanced to the second round of the lower bracket.
The turning point meant not only survival – it also revealed a pattern that is now haunting Paper Rex. PRX had already squandered two halftime leads against LOUD in the upper quarterfinal, including a 9-3 advantage on Sunset that ended in a 15-13 overtime loss. Against T1, history repeated itself on Summit. PRX's head coach alecks acknowledged at the press conference that the team's difficulties converting large leads is a deep-seated mental issue that requires serious attention in the upcoming offseason.
For T1, the victory is proof that the team can find resources under maximum pressure. They now await the loser of the match between G2 Esports and Team Vitality, with the next game scheduled for October 11.
