Epic Games has confirmed that NA East will return as a tournament region in December 2026 – and that NA Central will therefore close permanently for competitive play. This marks a fundamental restructuring of North America's tournament landscape, where FNCS and similar events will going forward be distributed between NA East and NA West instead of NA Central.

NA Central was introduced in February 2023 with servers in Texas. The consequence was that players on the East Coast and in Canada either had to accept high ping in the most prestigious tournaments or move to Texas to retain the zero-ping advantage. A number of players chose to leave the competitive scene entirely.

With the reopening of NA East – this time with servers located in Virginia – the player pool is once again opened up for East Coast and Canadian players. In addition, European players are expected to experience lower ping when queuing into NA tournaments.

The switch takes effect after the 2026 Fortnite Global Championship and the subsequent Solo FNCS, both of which will be held as planned. What happens to the tournament structure after Solo FNCS remains unclear. Epic has not confirmed the format for FNCS 2027, and players are currently voting on whether next season should be run as Duos or Trios.

Epic announced the change via the official Fortnite Competitive account on X with a video featuring Cody "Clix" Conrod as well as FNCS winners Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf, Leon "Khanada" Khim, and Miguel "Pollo" Moreno.

The central question for the competitive scene is now which top players will return to NA East and which will remain on NA West when NA Central disappears for good.
