How the qualification for BLAST R6 Major Osaka is structured: Regions, spots, and decisive playoff matches
BLAST R6 Major Osaka brings together 20 teams from seven regions. EML, NAL, and SAL each have four spots, while fourth-seeded teams must go through an initial play-in stage. Most qualification matches take place October 5–11, 2026.

BLAST R6 Major Osaka takes place from November 6 to 15, 2026, and the road there is structured around a total of 20 spots distributed across seven regions worldwide.
The three largest regions – Europe & MENA League (EML), North America League (NAL), and South America League (SAL) – each have four qualification spots for the tournament. The same applies to China, which likewise has four spots available. The remaining three spots go to the smaller Asia-Pacific regions: Asia-Pacific Asia receives two spots, while Asia-Pacific North and Asia-Pacific Oceania each contribute one.
The qualification process itself in EML, NAL, and SAL follows a uniform pattern. Six teams participate in each regional playoff, and with four spots on the line, the opening matches are decisive. Teams that start in the upper part of the bracket have two chances to qualify, while teams in the lower part of the bracket play with their backs against the wall from the first match – a single loss sends them out.
The teams that finish as the fourth seed in the major regional leagues must go through an initial play-in stage at the Osaka tournament itself. This is played in a double-elimination format, and only the top four advance. Higher-seeded teams skip this stage and go directly into the Swiss phase, where 16 teams compete over five rounds with the goal of three wins to reach the playoff phase.
Most of the decisive qualification matches across the regions take place in the period from October 5 to 11, 2026. According to available information, up to 17 of the 20 teams will have secured their spot during this week alone.
The qualification structure makes it clear that regional seeding is not merely a matter of prestige – it directly determines which phase a team starts in at the Osaka tournament itself.
