Three maps, no easy rounds: Liquid beat MOUZ in opening match marked by extreme parity
Liquid defeated MOUZ 2-1 in the opening match at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026. All three maps required at least 24 rounds, reflecting an extremely close balance of power between the two teams.

PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 opened with a match that seemed almost designed to underline how small the margin is between two teams that appear to be on vastly different levels on paper. Liquid defeated MOUZ, ranked number two in the VRS, 2-1 in maps – but the scorelines tell a far more nuanced story than the final result.
What is remarkable about the match is not just that it went to three maps, but that all three maps required at least 24 rounds before a winner could be determined. Ancient and Inferno both went to overtime, while Mirage was decided 13-11 in regulation – exactly 24 rounds. This means that none of the three maps were ever settled in advance, and that both teams repeatedly managed to turn around situations that looked hopeless.
On Ancient, MOUZ led 12-9 before Liquid took three rounds in a row and forced overtime – a comeback sequence that included a 1v5 clutch from NAF. MOUZ still won 16-13. On Inferno the roles were reversed: Liquid built a 12-9 lead, MOUZ equalized and forced overtime, but this time Liquid won 16-12. Mirage followed the same pattern with 6-6 at the half, an early MOUZ lead of 10-7 in the second half, and a Liquid comeback that secured 13-11 and with it the series victory.
The constant back-and-forth dynamic across all three maps reveals that the balance of power between the two teams was far closer than the rankings suggest. Neither MOUZ nor Liquid managed to dominate a single map from start to finish. NAF ended as the highest-rated player of the match with an overall rating of 1.12 across the entire series.
With the victory, Liquid are now in the 1-0 pool in the Swiss group stage, while MOUZ find themselves in the 0-1 pool.
